Cryonics

Tanya Jones is the Chief Operating Officer of Alcor, the world’s largest cryonics organization. Cryonics is the process whereby death is prevented by cooling the body and brain to sub-zero temperatures (-90ºc to -196ºc). The process starts moments after cardiac arrest; blood circulation and breathing are then artificially restored and a series of medications are administered to protect the brain from lack of oxygen. Rapid cooling then begins and this maintains the brain state of being “alive.” Tanya has overseen one third of Alcor’s patient population and has special responsibility for the maintenance of Alcor’s Emergency Response, Transport, Cryoprotective, and Cool-Down systems. She supervises all of the clinical aspects of the process (including training new and existing Transport Team members as well as other contracters and volunteers), and the integration and implantation of improved and evolving, technologies and procedures. To date, more than 100 people have been cryopreserved since the first case in 1967.
