Simcha Jacobovici

Documentary Director and Producer

Simcha Jacobovici is a documentary director and producer and a frequently published writer and lecturer. Named “Canada’s Top Documentary Filmmaker” by the Ryerson Review of Journalism, his most recent awards are the 2006 British Broadcast Award for Best Documentary program for Sex Slaves, which aired on CBC/C4/PBS Frontline, and the 2005 Overseas Press Club award for Impact for Terror, which aired internationally on CNN. Other awards include two Emmys for Outstanding Investigative Journalism, a certificate of Special Merit from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a Genie Award, a Gold Medal from the International Documentary Festival of Nyon, three U.S. Cable Ace Awards, two Gemini awards, an Alfred I. Dupont-Columbia University Award, a Silver Nymph from the Monte Carlo Festival, and the Best Documentary from the Jerusalem International Film Festival. Jacobovici’s past feature documentaries include: Falasha: Exile of the Black Jews (1983), Deadly Currents (1991), Hollywoodism: Jews, Movies, and the American Dream (1997), Quest for the Lost Tribes (1999), The Struma (2001) and the upcoming Exodus Decoded (2006) and The Tomb (2007) with James Cameron. His articles have appeared in numerous newspapers and journals around the world. He is presently writing a book on the archeology of the biblical exodus, to be published in the fall of 2006. As a lecturer, Simcha has been a guest speaker at numerous conferences and campuses, including: Yale, Johns Hopkins, McGill, York, and UCLA. He is fluent in four languages: English, French, Hebrew, and Romanian. An Israeli-born Canadian, Jacobovici received a B.A. form McGill University in Philosophy and Political Science and an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Toronto.
